Executive Board 2016 - 2017
Sarah Cobos, President
Sarah Cobos is a senior majoring in Cultural Anthropology and minoring in Political Science. Prior to transferring the California State University Long Beach, she earned her Associate of Arts degree in History at College of the Canyons. This is Sarah’s second year in Model United Nations and she is thrilled to continue representing Long Beach and build on the club’s winning reputation. In the past year Sarah competed at six conferences earning awards at National MUN New York, MUN Far West, Long Beach Intercollegiate MUN and received honourable mention at Santa Barbara Intercollegiate MUN. In addition to MUN activities and coursework Sarah enjoys traveling and this past summer studied abroad Cambodia. During her study in Phnom Penh and Siem Riep she was able to volunteer at two NGO’s focused on children’s education and wellbeing.
Marcus Gerstein, Treasurer
Marcus Gerstein, is a sophomore at CSULB majoring in history and minoring in Italian Studies. Politics has always been a passion of his, and something he greatly enjoys pursuing inside and outside the club. Born in Taiwan, then later moved to Italy, and now lives in San Francisco (when not at CSULB) he has had an opportunity to see the world, and most recently spent his summer in Argentina interning for AIESEC (a sub-agency of the United Nations!), teaching high school English.
Joshua Burger, Membership Coordinator
Josh burger is a second-year Masters student in the Sport Psychology program. Josh is in his second year of MUN at Long Beach. Highlights of Josh's first MUN year include: serving as Co-Chair at LBIMUN, attending SBIMUN, LAMUN, NWMUN, and being part of a Distinguished Delegation at National Model United Nations in New York City. Prior to coming to Long Beach, Josh did his undergraduate studies at Clark University in Worcester, MA. He was part of the Model UN team as a senior and attended Harvard National Model UN. Josh is excited for a great year and hopes for successes inside and outside of the moderated caucus.
Matthew Taylor, Secretary
Matthew Taylor is a second year student at CSULB majoring in Political Science and minoring in
Geography. In his first year with Long Beach Model United Nations Matthew served as a co-chair for LBIMUN and participated in several different conferences including Santa Barbara Intercollegiate MUN, Portland NWMUN, and LA MUN. In addition to being a member of Model United Nations he serves on the ASI Media Board of Trustees (ASIMBOT). Matthew was also a SOAR adviser over the summer helping students have a smooth transition to Cal State Long Beach. Matthew is excited for a successful year and looking forward to seeing new people getting involved in the best club on campus.
Andrea Castro, Secretary General
In her last year of college, Andrea Castro is majoring in Health Care Administration with a minor in Child Development. Andrea has been involved in MUN since high school making this year her ninth year of gaining MUN experience. This is Andrea's second year as Secretary General at CSULB. She hopes to make this school years conference better than the last one. Andrea has competed in conferences all over the United States and in Singapore. She has experience as a delegate, chair, and advisor. Andrea hopes to one day work for the World Health Organization. Besides MUN, Andrea loves to volunteer. She has completed over 400 volunteer hours at her local children’s hospital. Andrea is excited to make this year’s conference a fun, educational, and successful conference..
Andrew Castillou, Fundraising Coordinator
Andrew Castillou is a Junior majoring in History and minoring in Political Science. He previously attended San Joaquin Delta College before transferring to California State University Long Beach. While at Delta College Andrew was a member of the golf teaming during the Spring 2015 semester. Originally from Linden, a small town east of Stockton, he was active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and through this organization developed his public speaking skills. This is Andrew's first year as a Model United Nations delegate and he has participated in two conferences thus far. Andrew is looking forward to the coming year and raising funds to support our club!
Stephanie Lopez, Vice President Internal
Stephanie Lopez is a senior majoring in Political Science with a focus in Global Politics. Before attending LBSU, she earned her Associates in Political and Social Sciences. This is her third year in MUN and experience as a delegate, chair, and Secretary General of Training of her previous school. Stephanie is looking forward to preparing LBSU MUNsters into tiptop shape for conferences to come.
Jose F. Urias, Vice President External
Jose F. Urias is a second year double majoring in Political Science with a focus in Global Politics and Communication Studies. A Guatemala native, he immigrated to the United States at the age of eight. His migration story drives his passion for both politics and human communication. He has participated in the 6th and 7th Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Model United Nations, North-West Model United Nations in Portland, and Los Angeles Model United Nations. He is pleased to serve in this year's E-board and help others develop skills that will impact them in the world outside of MUN.
